As a design-led and research-orientated practice, inspiration is drawn from the context both wider and more immediate to create a contextual design and considered approach to each brief.
The studio works with a variety of scales and has an interest in the process of building from the concept design through to construction and completion, ensuring quality and prolonged building health and lifespan.
JHA has a particular interest in materiality, blending new and historic elements in a contemporary but sympathetic way through architectural gestures. The smaller scale elements such as lighting, ironmongery, and furniture are considered with equal care and attention.
Joshua Heasman
Director and founder
Joshua Studied at Kingston University and The CASS and has worked at several architectural studios including Carmody Groarke. After graduating with a nomination and shortlisting for an RIBA medal, Joshua has gained a broad range of experience through his career. He has experience running award-winning projects and has worked in commercial, public and domestic sectors. He has built upon his understanding of construction through making and building. This has aided his ability to detail robust buildings, collaborate and problem solve on site, prioritise budget allocation, and deliver quality.
